Mahulda Margaret "Hulda" Gambill
Adams was born on January 29, 1832/1833 along the Duck River in Bedford County,
Tennessee to Alfred Hennon Gambill & Mariah Whitesell. She was reportedly
one of triplet daughters, her sisters being Emily J. & Mary C. "Polly"
Gambill. It is said that their mother died as a result of complications from
childbirth on March 27th of the same year.
In 1850, after her father remarried, Hulda
was living with her only brother James B. Gambill & his wife &
daughter. She then came to Texas on a wagon train.
In Texas she met and married a young
widower, John Ervin Adams. They had eight children: Andrew Jackson, Ciatta L.,
Mahulda Octavia, Dulcena G., Fallena, John Ervin Jr., Harriet Atwood & an
unnamed infant. She died in 1918, probably in Polk or Trinity County, Texas.
Also of note: the name Gambill has many
alternate spellings, Gamble, Gambil, Gambell etc. and it is also rendered many
times as Gambrell, a spelling Hulda was known to use. Different branches of the
same family have adopted all these different variations.
P.S. - Another researcher had questioned the
last name because he had found it rendered as Gamblin, as I tried to explain
above this is just another variation on the surname. I had listed some of the
most common examples above but there are many others I have seen - Gambling,
Gambol, Gambrill, etc, etc. There are actually too many too list.

John: John lee came to Polk County, Texas in
1853, where they lived until about the middle of the 1870's. They moved to
Trinity County where Mary died on Dec. 18 1879. John was a veteran of the
confederate army. His military records states that he was six feet tall with a
dark complexion, black eyes, and black hair. He enlisted on June 13, 1864 in
company F, 22nd Texas infantry but was discharged on Nov. 9, 1864 due to
physical disability. He returned home where he engaged in farming. Tragedy
struck the lee family on Feb. 13, 1899. A winter storm was in progress, making
the ground slick with ice. While carrying a stick of wood for the fireplace,
perhaps a large back log, John slipped and fell. The wood crushed his head and
broke his neck, killing him instantly. He and both his wives, as well as at
least fifteen of his children, are buried in Bennett Cemetery near Apple
Springs in Trinity County, Texas.

9. William Soloman Lee #100, born Nov 26 1881 in

William was known as Will in the community
of Crecy, TX. At the age of 29 Will suffered a Stroke. He had crops in the
fields and small children in the house. Jennie tended to him, the crops, and
the children. Jennie had a hard time but she did it. Will got over the stroke
and went back to farming. Farmers would borrow the money to plant the crops.
When the crops came in, they would pay back the banker. If the crops didn't
make enough to pay the banker back, the bank would take their animals. During
the winter months, Will would chop wood for the fireplace and fix fences.
Jennie was a midwife and sometimes she was a lot like a doctor. She would tend
to the sick. Jennie delivered lots of babies in her lifetime. Jennie could
really cook and people loved to eat her cooking. On Sunday, twenty to thirty
neighbors, friends and family would come by to eat. Will died on May 20, 1933
at five minutes after twelve from a heart attack. After Will’s death
Jennie had a difficult time, she still had children at home, age's eight and
ten; so they moved around a good bit. She made very little as a midwife. Jennie
married the second time to doe turner. Jennie lee died February 11, 1951 of

Mavis
Frances Lee Floyd was the third child and oldest daughter of John and Cricket
Lee. She was born on February 28, 1934 in Trinity County, Texas. She married
Charlie Lamar Floyd on August 17, 1950. Together they had and raised four sons
and a daughter and enjoyed 42 years of marriage. Mavis was an enthusiastic
singer and led the singing at her church for many years. She also loved to
garden and grow flowers and had a reputation as a real green thumb. Mavis was a
cheerful, affectionate person with a deep Christian faith. She lost her short
but difficult battle with pancreatic cancer on April 12, 2007 in Lufkin, Texas.

Charlie
Lamar Floyd was the oldest child of Albert Andrew Floyd and Bessie Vivian Mann.
He was born August 8, 1929 and was raised mostly in the community of Carlisle,
Texas. His mother died when he 14 years old, leaving behind Charlie, his two
little sisters, Maxine & Laverne and their older, half brother
"Dick" Tipton. Charlie married Mavis Frances Lee on August 17, 1950
and they had four sons and a daughter. The family traveled a lot in the first
half of their marriage as Charlie followed work all over Texas and out to
California. Charlie was a very hard working person, with a great sense of humor
and a distinctive laugh. He was the kind of man who would do anything to help
people. He died September 5, 1992 in a Tyler, Texas hospital.

Jolene Lee was born November 8, 1945, she was the seventh child of John Edward
and Nancy Jane Hollis Lee. She was named Wilna by her brother Cole, after one
of his favorite schoolteachers. She married Haskell Casper in 1965 and had five
children. Wilna was a sweet person, who enjoyed family get-togethers and her
little dog, Sweetie. She died January 13, 2011 in Zavalla, Texas.

Minnie (Lee) Campbell, 88 of
Apple Springs, daughter of the late Jennie Jo (Crawford) and William Solomon
Lee, was born May 14, 1923 in the Crecy Community in Trinity County, and passed
away May 21, 2011 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Campbell loved nature and
the outdoors. She enjoyed animals and nursing them back to health. She was a
hard worker, especially outdoors. She knew a lot about her family's history.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Services for Mrs. Campbell were
held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment followed in the Bennett Cemetery.

I never met Melinda I was deeply saddened by the news of her passing. I first
contacted Melinda in 1985 thanks to information supplied to me by Mrs. Elaine
Ingram Lockhart, Trinity County Clerk in Groveton, TX. We learned after
corresponding that we were cousins. We wrote and talked several times on the
phone and learned that we shared a common interest, researching our family
trees. I would like to dedicate this section covering the Campbell Family and
all families connected to it to Melinda's memory, God rest her soul. Also I'd
like to thank Desiree (Melinda's Sister) whom I haven't met either for her time
and effort sending me the information that I requested. Melinda's death was caused
by a blunt trauma to the back. She was never married, and had no children.

Peggy loved Hemet and resided there for 82 years. She passed away at Cliff View
Assisted Living from natural causes in St George, Utah where she and her
departed husband Charlie moved to in September of 2010. While attending Hemet
schools she met Charlie and they eloped to Yuma, AZ as soon as she turned 15
years of age. When he passed away, they had been married almost 70 years. She
worked for San Jacinto School District for many years and most of her fondest
memories were of that period. Later, she became secretary for Hemet Ambulance
Service. Survivors include daughter Charlesa Hummel of Yuba City, CA; son Mark
Crow (Joy) of Hurricane, Utah; grandson Jason Crow (Erika), Garth Crow
(Kathleen) and Tim Crow; son of Mark and Joy, and great grandaughter Daryn,
child of Jason and Erika. Peggy (Granny) will be interred with Charlie in Hemet
at a future date.

Herrington was born December 29, 1964 in Lufkin, Texas. Her birth name was
Tolbert but she was later adopted by her stepfather. She was married from 1979
to 1986 and had a daughter Amanda Gail.
She passed away after a lengthy
illness on December 13, 2004 at age 39. In addition to her only child, Amanda,
she was survived by her mother, Violet Lee Herrington, her two sisters, Lora
Herrington Brantley and Shurma Herrington, as well as numerous other relatives
and friends.
